Financial aid, remittances and their effect on relative deprivation in Rwanda

Economic relative deprivation is increasingly recognized as an indication of economic well-being, also among refugees. This study examines to what extent financial contributions (financial aid and remittances) can compensate for the objective subjective Congolese refugees compared their Rwandan hosts. The analysis conducted using unique data that have been collected with a UNHCR-funded research project. We find refugee households initially experience more than local households, but this association largely suppressed by they receive. results show especially deprivation. Furthermore, there evidence are often exceptionally deprived when rigid measurements used. To promote well-being whole population, needs both locals should be considered distributing development assistance.
